I bought a antique shadow box at a yard sale. It was in sad shape, but it cleaned up wonderfully, except for the back of the shadow box. It%26#039;s a mirror and I cannot get stains or fog off of it. Any suggestions? Thanks|||Remove Mirror and go to a Plastic Supply store, Have Size to replace it with a Sheet of Plexaglass coated Mirror Material, --- Antique or not the plastic will look much better and last twice as long.|||try vinegar its good for mirrors so should work wonders|||If it is really an antique (over 100 yrs old) there likely isn%26#039;t much you can do for the mirror. The silver on the back isn%26#039;t the same stuff they use today. But you could check with a glass shop to see what they recommend. An appraiser could probably give you the names of conservators or restorers. That would get you started with advice anyway.
Personally, I%26#039;d start hitting the search engines, specifically Google%26#039;s News search. Usenet archives can be a good hit, since it isn%26#039;t full of advertisements and misleading webpages just looking to make you buy something.
