Boxing and fitness?

I haven%26#039;t been working out that much for the past few months, and I%26#039;m thinking about taking a fitness boxing class.

Supposedly, the workout consists of rope skipping, circuit training, shadow boxing, medicine ball drills, abdominal toning, flexibility and strength training.

I%26#039;m wondering if I do the above, 3 times a week (you can chose to do it 1 - 5 days outta the week), when will results show? I am 5%26#039;7 in the normal BMI range, but want to really tone up.|||Wow! That sounds like a tough workout! If you do it 3 times a week, you should see some results within a few days. They won%26#039;t be dramatic, but you%26#039;ll definitely drop at least a few pounds. However, with the strength training, and medicine ball drills your weight could stay the same for a while. It all depends on how quickly you gain muscle and burn fat. Either way you%26#039;ll see some changes.

Who knows about the movie Shadow Box?

Hi Elainey66,

I think i know the movie hope this helps you

Advertised as %26quot;Paul Newman%26#039;s First Film for Television,%26quot; Shadow Box was more specifically the first TV movie to be directed by Newman. Moving in a slow, deliberate fashion, the film concerns three terminally ill people. Their stories intertwine as the unfortunate spend their last days with their families in a cottage-complex hospice. Christopher Plummer and Joanne Woodward play a pair of ex-spouses, whose chances for reconciliation are strained somewhat by the presence of Plummer%26#039;s male lover Ben Masters. James Broderick plays a blue-collar worker, sharing precious final moments with wife Valerie Harper. And elderly Sylvia Sidney comes to terms with her daughter Melinda Dillon. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Michael Cristofer, Shadow Box was co-produced by Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward%26#039;s daughter Susan Kendall Newman. The Emmy-nominated drama was first telecast December 28, 1980. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide.

Why when I try to convert my Word docs to pdf, do the graphics print out wrong?

In my job I have to create diagrams that consist of different colors, shadow boxes, and borders in MS Word...so why will they not convert to pdf correctly? For instance, shadow boxes become checkered patterned. Again, If I have a square with black border all around it, only three sides appear with border, and one remains blank. Can anyone assist? Is there a special website that can help me?! THANK YOU!|||Without knowing which program you are using to convert your documents to PDF, I can%26#039;t really say what is happening, but I would recommend downloading a free trial of Solid Converter PDF from

http://www.soliddocuments.com/download.h...

and try to convert your document this way. I would be suprised if this program doesn%26#039;t convert it correctly, and if it does not, you can send us a copy of the file and we can take a look at it for you and see if we can find out exactly why it is happening.

Please, i need boxing help?

im a martial artisit and wanted to ask, when punching and you pivot on your feet how do you get used to it, when i pivot my stance goes akward and my 2 legs cross lines. how do i get used to it and should i shadow box with my gloves on or off, what will increase my hand speed

i used to do boxing, for a year and now do martial arts

thanks|||I dont know if your southpaw or orthordox but, make sure legs are shoulder with apart and put your back leg a few inches out. This may help you .|||To make your punches faster..

When hitting the heavybag, just lightly tap it. go for speed not power. Than when you really rip into it.. BAM! amazing power.|||I recommend adjusting your stance so you are turned more towards the target. A boxer%26#039;s stance is more sideways to make it easier to reach with the jab and minimize your upper body target area. But in martial arts, it%26#039;s better to have more of an open stance (feet and body almost facing completely the opponent), so it%26#039;s easier for you to throw kicks with either leg quickly and also avoid the opponents low leg kick to your front leg. Another advantage of the more open stance is a better base to shoot in for the takedown or to avoid them.

You can get use to it by sparing with a martial artist who will kick your leg if you leave it out too far. By yourself, shadowbox and throw in kicks with your back leg often, this will force you to open your stance while punching and privoting.

To increase your handspeed, you can try shadowbox holding light dumbbells (2lbs to 5lbs) for a few minutes, then drop them and box without them for a few minutes, your hands will move faster. Go back and forth like this to work on your fast twitch muscles.|||You can increase handspeed by using the speedbag. Rubberbands and other isometric exercises (like holding your fist against the wall and trying to push forward like a punch except only you can%26#039;t.)

Boxing hand speed?

how many punches per second do you think mosley, mayweather and calzaghe throw or can throw? I was watching videos on youtube and they have people like 5 punches per second and stuff.

How many punches do you think amateur boxers can throw per second? how do you work on improving hand speed, should i try shadow boxing with light weights?

If there is someone else you think belongs with mayweather, mosley and calzaghe do tell.|||Several punches a second, or more, is possible.

Most people can develop this kind of speed with time and conditioning.

A double-end bag is good. Try to hit it accurately from different angles and with speed. Watch Roy Jones training on this when he was younger, as he was amazing.

Also, focus mitts can really help if you have a good coach who will call out fast combinations or angle and open gloves so you have to react fast.

The heavy bag is also useful if you pretend it is hot so you really impact fast and hard, but then pull your punch back immediately.

Sparring is essential work as well, and general conditioning an obvious requirement.

Do consider that some boxers become very fast, but everyone needs a good coach and trainer to develop their own personal style. In fact, not all boxers become really fast. Some have more power, and some use positioning and angles. Ali was really fast, and although he got hit too much (lousy defense), he trained hard and never quit. Marciano was slower and less powerful, but his relentless conditioned determination allowed him to put his opponents on the defensive and gradually wear them down, and he also never quit. Tyson had it all, speed, great movement, power, and defense, but one day he fired everyone and stopped training. He quit.

Find out what works for you. Speed is important, but keep everything in balance. You also need accuracy, power, a game plan, great trainers and coaches, and prime conditioning.....

And never quit!

Shadow box at magic kingdom ??

Has anybody ever gone there and got a silhouette done? How much was it ??? Was it worth it ??|||I have seen this plenty of times, I dont remember how much they cost, but im guessing somewhere above 30 dollars, and it would be worth it, your legacy is there forever i guess.

How do I find out if something is worth money?

I have a religious statue, in a glass/wood shadow box type of thing of Saint Rita of Cascia. I just want to know if it is valuable...how can I find out on-line? Thank you~|||You could try going to Antiques Roadshow if you can%26#039;t find it on the internet.|||Get it appraised.|||go to ebay and do a search. If you cant find it there do a post on ebay and someone will find out for you...

Boxing fitness class?

I%26#039;m taking a boxing fitness class, and we do a lot of things using the arms, and also we do shadow boxing, we use the punching bag, but we do not lift weights. So i was wondering if you can get some arm muscle by doing all that or i have to do some weight lifting also.|||The boxing along will give you plenty of muscle. If however, you feel that this is not enough or you want even more fitness you may lift weights or cross train in other sports or activity. The imporatnt thing is to focus your training. If all you want is a good cardio and good looks then the weight lifting has to be geared toward looking good. However, if you want to be competitive in boxing or any other sport then the weight training has to be focused on achieving a certain goal. FOr example, if you are a runner then the focus of weight training should be to help you run. That is to help you run faster, or stronger legs or what ever it is that will help the running. So, first decided what it is that you want and then look for a place that will taylor your trining (weight, cardio or whatever) toward the goals you want to achieve.

I am 5%26#039;7 in the normal BMI range, but want to really tone up.|||Boxing is one of the best and fastest ways to get in shape. You do a lot of cardio with the rope jumping and shadow boxing and with the medicine ball you work on your strength and endurance and ab toning all at once. If you really work hard at it and your diet is good, you will see results very quickly. I train fighters and i have seen some guys come in the gym so out of shape and in 3 weeks of hard work they start to tone up and have more stamina. But everyone%26#039;s body responds differently to working out so the results vary from person to person, but you can achieve all your goals with hard work and dedication. And be patient, the results will come if you stick with it. My old trainer is 66 years old, and he%26#039;s in better shape than most 30 year olds, and it%26#039;s all because of boxing. Good luck to you!|||You%26#039;ll look so fine I%26#039;ll want to take you out to dinner...

...heck, I%26#039;ll take you out to dinner anyways.

:-)|||Boxing is a fantastic exercise routing that tones the entire body and enhances cardio vascular health. Go for it and see if you enjoy it. ANY workout routine that you enjoy is one you are likely to keep up with. Almost all of them will help, but ONLY if you do them. Consistency and effort are the keys.

Good luck.

Normally, you will see and feel results is about four weeks, Withing six to eight weeks, expect to be getting comments from others.... WHAT ARE YOU DOING? You look different!|||at least 12-15 days. Good luck with your fitness classes

I need help deciding on a color scheme for my livingroom.?

Couches: black leather. Tables: topped with glass and cream ceramic bases. Hardwood floors with wood crown molding and on the windows.

I want a contemporary look and have been contemplating on a more warm feel using dark woods for furniture and shadow boxes with an orange accent, the area rug will contain each color, or a black and white theme with a red accent.|||Ok the orange accent sounds nice. I would paint the ceramin base of your glass table a slightly lighter shade of orange so that it stands out and blends....creme just won%26#039;t work with that color scheme.

The black and white theme sounds nice but I think the hardwoods are throwing you off.

Black and brown work well with hot colors.....red, orange, gold....

Also, work nice with turquoise. I think that because you have alot of dark going on, you need to either punch up the color to make that white table work OR, lose the table and warm up the room with more browns, and beiges.

Hope this helps.|||cant go wrong with beige|||Cooler colors: Light Cucumber Green, Light Yellow, a grayish blue or beige.

Warmer Colors: Reds, Warms oranges, a darker warm yellow, I think these colors would be best with your black leather couches and workd well with the hardwood and crown molding.|||You didn%26#039;t say what your wall color is.

If you are planning on using dark furniture, and you have a black couch, I personally would not go with orange. For some reason, the color combo makes me think of Halloween. You%26#039;d have to use quite a bit of orange in accents and accessories to off-set all the black and dark colors. Sorry, but you asked for help, and I can%26#039;t give you any help without offering my opinion.

What I can envision in this room is a clear, light green - not a sage, but a bright spring green. I can see it in my mind%26#039;s eye, but I can%26#039;t describe it. Kind of like a light lime green, but not a neon.

Or...a clear, beautiful turquoise...think of the sun shimmering on water. You couild even use both these colors, with one of them in a pale clear tint for your walls.

Glass accessories in these colors, such as vases, bottles, etc and some silver accents would be stunning, I think.

Ultimately, the choice is yours. So - go with what you love and what best meets your budget, taste, and lifestyle.|||Well, my suggestion would be to go with a neutral color to match the base of the tables for 3 of the walls. For the fourth wall I would go with an accent color. I personally prefer red over orange for a warm cozy feeling. Soft oranges or washed out oranges are also very pretty, but I wouldn%26#039;t go for too bold of an orange. Red is very timeless and it will be very easy to find fabric and accessories to accentuate that color. On the plus side of orange, red is a very hard color to paint. You will need (depending on the color being painted over) to be primered in a tinted primer, probably 2 coats. Then painted with the red paint and that will probably take anywhere from 2-3 coats too.

So it depends on where you%26#039;re most handy - painting or shopping for accessories.

You could also go the sagey green color also specified on here, that is a very popular color and I%26#039;ve seen it in many modern themed houses complimenting either black or white.

I would go to your local home improvement store and pick up a few small samples of paints and brush a little on a wall. Then decide which you like best with the lighting and atmosphere your room provides.

Best of luck to you in whatever you decide...Happy Holidays!|||I am not an expert, but I think that cream, light yellow or light orange all will suit your furniture and make a warm atmosphere.

Good luck!|||My house is a 1971 post modern quad. It has fake exposed ceiling beams painted in chocolate brown. It seems like that color is back in favor when you watch HGTV. I left the beams chocolate brown, the ceiling is white ceiling paint, and the walls are an off white %26quot;vanilla latte%26quot; from home depot.. The floor is brazilian cherry hardwood, the trim around the floor is also chocalate brown painted wood. I have Red microfiber couches and curtains, and rugs and curtains with the brown, red and pumpkin orange in them....the room looks great

Ancient Egyptian beads - Best way to display them?

I have some ancient egyptian beads (very small) and I would like to display them in a shadow box as a gift for my best friend for her birthday. She loves anything about ancient egypt and this is going to be a big suprise for her so I want it to be as close to perfect as possible. How do I mount them, do I use glue (if so what type) any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks|||if they are drilled string them and hang them from the top of the box cuby. if they are not drilled, use jeweler%26#039;s mount. It is a tacky glue (like the stuff your credit ward was attached to the paper with) it is sticky enough that she can take them off to look at them and then put them back.

Nice gift!|||I%26#039;m sure that you received them as a gift so why do you want to part with them. As far as best friends go the best friends you have are in your wallet. This you will find out in time. And don%26#039;t glue them that is a sin.I don%26#039;t think that you realize what you have.Put them in a security box in the bank they will appreciate as long as you don%26#039;t crazy glue them.Best friends come and go ancient friends stay forever.|||In a museum!!

Mixing aerobic and anaerobic for the results I want?

So I think I have this finally figured out, but someone please help me out. I work out about 3-5 times a week. I was doing mostly anaerobic workouts then throw in aerobic for conditioning about once or twice. The other day I was talking to a guy at the gym and he was telling me that if I want to keep my muscle mass and burn fat the best way to do it was to do both, but start with the anaerobic stuff to burn off the food/energy you have consumed that day then do aerobic to burn off the stored fat. So now I work out everything every time. I do a mixture of weight lifting, jump rope, burpies, sit ups, shadow boxing, basically all my anaerobic stuff then I get on the tredmill or go outside depending on the weather and run for 20-30 minutes. Am I finally doing this right or am I still not understanding how it works?|||do your aerobic stuff at a different time from your anaerobic stuff, your body wont know what the hell is going on, try and do the aerobic stuff early in the morning for 30 Min%26#039;s not more than that, at least 3 times per week.

do you anaerobic stuff at evening or night.

if you do it after your aerobic session you wont have the energy to lift heavy weights

if you want to gain or keep muscle keep you anaerobic and aerobic sessions at different times even different days if you can, you don%26#039;t see a muscular marathon runner, too much cardio and your body will attack your muscles too make them smaller so you don%26#039;t burn as much calories, its a defence mechanism, your body adjusts to the way you live your life, if you do a lot of sleeping and just do heavy weights at the gym your gonna get big. that%26#039;s how it works.|||i believe in mixing both as well. the resistance training is important for increasing mass, and that mass in turn consumes more calories even while at rest. the cardio consumes calories, improves your cardio system, lowing blood pressure, cholestorhol and improving flow. the cardio is also where you can burn a whole bunch of calories and take off weight. in my case, in cycling, i can run with my heart rate elevated for hours on end. i estimated that in my last century i burned over 10,000 calories in that one effort, and doing that will definately take weight off unless you are totally abusing what you eat.

Skinny but with pot belly although have tried my best, how to rid it?

i%26#039;m 27 male.because i%26#039;m so injured, i can%26#039;t do harcore exercise workouts: knee ligament torn since years ago and i have arthritis. chest ligament torn long tme ago and it hurts bad. 7am cereal breakfast

10am banana or granola

12 or 1 lunch. which is sandwich, fruit, drink, little treat

3pm maybe alittle snack

5 or 7 dinner which can be anything from healthy salads, beans %26amp; rice, veggies, quesadillas etc

10pm small bowl of cereal cause i get really hungry.

I don%26#039;t eat fast food like mcdonalds, etc. only sometimes on weekends. So if you throw a straight punch, and your opponent throws a curvy loopy swing. Yours is connecting first. And most likely your opponent will be rushing in with a wild right with his chin up. So if he rushes in like that, chances are he%26#039;ll run straight into one of your straight punches. His forward momentum running into your fist could possibly produce a KO. usually how knockouts in the streets happen.

I really think straight punches are the secret.

Either that or your opponent will rush in with his head DOWN, swinging haymaykers. at that point just hockey box him. By that i mean just use your forearm to hold his head/neck down, and throw some uppercuts.

So remember, If you throw your punches straight. You%26#039;ve already greatly increased your chances for winning the exchange, since most untrained people will throw wide, ****** back, haymakers. Which are slow, predictable, and leave them wiiide open.

Good luck and put on a good show.

Is 20 or 30 mins of excersize each day enough?

I do 20 or 30 mins of extra excersize on top of my daily walking and housing cleaning (about 1 hour)

I am trying to lose weight, and have cut calories.

I either do shadow boxing..med impact cardio,or aerobics, with some light weight lifting each day thrown in for about 20-30 mins..is that enough to lose weight?|||That%26#039;s really good. Of course, 30 is better than twenty. But doing that on top of staying active through house work is commendable. It may take a while to see results but I%26#039;m sure that if you stick with it you will. Another good idea for weight loss is to not eat after 7:30 at night. That has really helped me, along with exercise and reduced calories. Is there a way to practice grappling when you don't have a partner?

I take judo, and I%26#039;m wondering what I can do to practice when I%26#039;m by myself. For striking arts, I can shadow box or hit the punching bag, but what about for grappling?|||You grapple ur cock and shoot a big roper|||First of all, Judo is not grappling.

You tie your obi to a post and practice your uchi komi%26#039;s.

You practice your ukemi. http://www.judoinfo.com/ukemi.htm

You do mat drills up and down the tatami: (%26#039;shrimping%26#039;; leg-extractions; neck-bridges; crab-walks; and stretching exercises) .

Judo has only two flaws that I can admit: 1. it doesn%26#039;t teach defense against multiple assault; 2. Judo kata requires two people.

So when you enter the dojo early Saturday morning finding yourself alone because of a particularly strenuous workout the previous night, you can be at a bit of a loss without an uke to practice and that is one of the rare fallacies of Judo. So do mat drills, practice your falls, and do fit-ins.|||Well there are resistance bands which you can wrap around a tree or a post and practice your throws that way. Practice the footwork movements of transitioning into throws.

As for ground grappling, it is a bit harder, but what you can do is perform exercises that will enhance your grappling such as shrimps, sprawls, rolls etc.

-Becca|||wow those look like they would be easy to make. you can buy a basic shadow box at any place that sells frames (hobby/craft stores, walmart, etc). you can buy the molding at hardware stores. but you would have to cut it and put it together. or, you can buy a picture frame about the same size of the shadow box and attach it on top. inside the shadow box, attach a piece of wood or something to act as a shelf for the ball to rest on. you%26#039;ll have to think of a creative way to hold the ball in place. maybe a cup cut down in which to sit the ball. or some straps that go over the top of the ball, anchored on the sides. buy some poster board from hobby/craft store to complete the front.

maybe research how to make your own or ask on y!a (home %26amp; garden%26gt;DIY?). if you aren%26#039;t crafty you could buy the materials and pay someone to do it. I don%26#039;t think it would cost over $100 for parts and labor

EDIT:

you can%26#039;t choose best answer until hours have passed. then you come back and see a blue button under each answer and pick one

Anyhoo I was thinking for those shadow boxes like the one in your link they may have the ball pinned or screwed or glued from the back or something to make it look like its floating. not sure you want to do that with your particular ball though. not sure how much you value the ball but you can put a hole in it and it won%26#039;t lose its shape (it won%26#039;t deflate or anything lol). you could do that if you don%26#039;t mind %26quot;ruining%26quot; the ball. i wouldnt do the glue method though|||Ebay

Increasing boxing power, any suggestions?

My boxing technique is excellant, I shadow box, and I weight lift sometimes (light weights 20lbs or so), but do you guys have any other suggestions for increasing power?|||Weight lifting is super terrible for boxing. Don%26#039;t bother with it at all unless you%26#039;re an elite level pro with plenty of speed and endurance to spare.

Real power is generated from proper technique and leverage of your body%26#039;s skeletal muscles. You%26#039;ll have to fix your stance, learn how to rotate your body instead of just leaning in for a hard punch. You have to drive punches with your shoulders instead of just reaching out there and getting use to swinging your entire body into the whole punch.|||If what you say is true, then just find an old copy of Dempsey%26#039;s book. He talks about power punching (and he should know) coming from %26quot;falling into the hole%26quot;, stamping the front foot as you allow your body weight to fall.

All the old timers like Marciano, Dempsey, Johnston, and Lewis punched like that, but no one does any more. Dempsey lamented that fact in his book, stating that power punching was a lost art.

Watching old videos of Dempsey hitting the heavy bag (it moved like a toy), I believe him. Lewis, Dempsey, Johnston and Marciano would devastate the modern heavyweight division due to their training regieme and punching power. Foreman, Ali, and Lennox Lewis are the only ones who would stand a chance.

Find his book.|||when you throw hooks.. dont cock you arm out soo much.. twist your hips with the punch.. For uppercuts, Take all you weight and bring it up.. for jabs.. step forward.. for straight rights(for right handers).. lean forward and twist when you punch..|||work on strengtheing your core muscles and the speed of the snap in your hips when you turn for a punch

Boxing with 12oz gloves?

I have 12oz gloves for sparing and shadow boxing made by everlast and is it a good idea to go have full out fights around the naborhood with them?|||wtf? 12oz? get 20 or something than you can fight for the rest of your life|||for shadow boxing don%26#039;t wear any gloves just hand-wraps. 12 oz gloves are what will be used in a fight but usually not in sparing. most of the time you will use 16 oz

the only real advice you will get on here is to go to a boxing gym and get a trainer|||no go get 16oz. it%26#039;s safer.

How do you remove stuck down foam layer on a shadow box?

I bought a shadow box, thinking it just had a black background, which is what I wanted. Well, I went to use it and it%26#039;s squishy and is used to velcro things to. I don%26#039;t want to do that with it. So, I removed the %26quot;squishy%26quot; part and am left with a thin layer of foam that is glued down. I got some of that off, but it%26#039;s glued down pretty well. How can I remove it??

What I%26#039;m trying to remove it from is sort of a picture frame back type thing.

Thanks!|||There is a product called Goof Off, it will help you clean off the rest.

How can I preserve my rose petals?

I have a lot of roses from my wedding in all sorts of colors.

I would like to preserve some of the petal so they will last FOREVER!!!. If that is possible?

Does anyone know how to do this? And do the different colors need to be seperated or can they all be put together.

I%26#039;d like to put them in a shadow box. I think I%26#039;ve seen this done on TV years ago but can%26#039;t remember what to do?

HELP!!!!|||you can also hang them to dry upside down (so they stay nice and straight), no need to separate the colours if you dont want to|||Dry on a tray them somewhere warm, like an airing cupboard then use them around the house for potpourri|||There is a product called Silica Gel or Silica Sand that you can get at Hobby Lobby or pretty much any hobby/craft store. You can probably find it at florist shops as well.

This product will preserve the roses or rose petals and their colors beautifully. If you dry them naturally then you will lose shape and color.

Good Luck

Would it look stupid having a wall with only shelves?

Like different types of shelves and shadow boxes..my husband has an abundance of firefighting collectibles and they have taken over my WHOLE house :(|||Nope... no dumber than a wall of book cases.|||I have no idea what your decor is like, but I LOVE these shelves... they can be mixed and matched.Oh... and whatever you decide to do, keep the shelves either all one design or all one color. If you don%26#039;t, you%26#039;ll detract from what%26#039;s on the shelves and it will all just look jumbled.

http://freshome.com/2007/05/26/cosmo-mod...|||naw I mean it is diffrent and that is neat all in its self what would be neat is to paint the shelves diffrent and fun colors and the walls on each shelf diffrent too.|||No actually b/c you can display whatever you like, I just wouldn%26#039;t overkill it. I have seen this done in a Pottery Barn mag.|||i think a whole wall with shelves would look cool ;) try to draw it on a piece of paper or something to see what it would look like ;P|||I think it would look unfinished, but take your time and add things over time.

How many calories does shodawboxing burn per hour, or half hour?

I like to shadow box when I have nothing to do. I%26#039;d like to know how many calories I%26#039;m burning while I%26#039;m doing it. Would you say it burns as much as running?|||More information is needed, like your weight. Please go to the site listed below. Enter your weight. Then click on the drop down box and choose the boxing method that most resembles shadow boxing. You will then be able to find out how many calories you are burning.

http://www.fatburn.com/free_tool_activit...|||It depends on how much you weigh, use this to figure it out:

http://www.magnetic-diet.com/exercise-ca...

I bought a "front loading" shadow box from Hobby Lobby. I'm trying to reassemble it and can't figure it out!

It%26#039;s 10 x 13, black and the label says %26quot;2006 Green Tree Gallery%26quot; from Oklahoma City, OK. The beveled portion of the sides are all out and I can%26#039;t seem to find instructions for assembly anywhere.

I%26#039;m in a jam, b/c it%26#039;s for father%26#039;s day (tomorrow). Help!!!!!!!!!!!|||Lay all the pieces out on a table, and treat it like a puzzle.

You should have (put it in the middle) one big part for the back.

Two the same lengths for the sides, (put one to the left and one to the right of the back) and two the same lengths for top and bottom, (they go above and below the back.)

If all is right now you only have the glass left.

And maybe some metal parts to add the things together.

If you have more pieces, match the lengths to the parts you have worked out, and add them to the outside of the set-up. They can be the decorative finish for the front.

To construct the box, fist try to fit each of the parts and see how they fit together.

If there are metal fittings with screws they are easy to work out, if they do not have screws, look for groves in the wood, to click them in.

If there are no metal pieces and the wood does not fit without help, you will need screw and glue. (If it was meant to be a do it yourself kit you should be given those, otherwise use whatever you have available, (since you are in a hurry.) Wood glue is the better but takes more time to dry.

After you have puzzled out how the box goes together you fit the sides to the back (and each other) fill the box and add the front, and lastly if they are there, the wooden decorative parts.

Boxing: how fast should this combo be?

i practice muay thai.

im doing the jab, jab, left hook combo. and its around 1.8 - 2.0 seconds to complete the combo while i shadow box. but on the bag it takes 2.0 seconds. do you think its slow?

in muay thai we dont weave because we would get kneed, but im going to do a boxing match with a friend...so when is the most appropriate time to weave, because ive been watchign some boxing matches and they weave randomly?...to sike their opponents?

give me any tips you know, except for the basics..keeping hands up n blah blah blah. thanks in advance|||On your first question is 2 seconds for a jab,jab , hook slow? YES. But also depends on the type of hook your throwing, with a jab hook(Ex:Sugar Robinson) yes that is slow, a %26quot;Mike Tyson%26quot; hook (My own personal name for it) that sounds about right, or just a wide arm hook (Ex:Ali) then its kinda slow.

If you have some time(I dont mean right before the match because you will wear yourself out) before your %26quot;sparring%26quot; I recomend taking weights around 2.5 to 5 pounds in both hands and shadow boxing. This will definetly help with your hand speed.

Bobbing and Weaving is a movement for usually shorter guys who are trying to slip the the bigger mans jab and land shots on the inside. When they do it randomly there trying to get in there rythm usually.

Also stay busy with your hands! Use your jab,Use your jab, and Use your jab!(pracice it before you go in the ring of course). Before your sparring try to lossen up and do a little shadow boxing before you get in the ring.

Do it only with super vision from an adult thats knows he is doing(Ex: Like your local boxing instructor), Wear head gear, and do not do it on a cement floor Do it on a padded floor, be careful, and good luck.|||I used to compete in Muay Thai and then I switched over to amaterur boxing. So I know you have to make a lot of adjustments. First of all your Muay Thai stance will be too sqaure for boxing. You need to roll your lead shoulder forward and tuck your chin into in. Your back hand should rest either at your temple or right in front of your chin, whatever works best for you. And the right bicep and forearm should brush up against the body. You need to point your lead shoulder at your opponent and keep your belly button pointed off to the side. Give your opponent the smallest possible target. Boxers do move their head a lot. If you see a shot coming you can either slip it or roll it. Most of the time you slip straight punches and roll hooking shots. Make sure when you roll you bring your body weight away from the shot first so that you are not rolling right into it. ex) when the left hook comes you lean to your left side first because the shot is coming on the right side. Then you roll through and end up in a good position to throw a counter right hand. Also it%26#039;s a good idea to get into the habit of slipping and moving your head after you throw your punches or in between every three of four shots if you are throwing combos. A lot of boxers always have their head moving so as not to give their opponent a stationary target. If your opponent does this, don%26#039;t aim for their head with any straight power shots. Aim for their chest or either shoulder. Hopefully you will catch them as they slip, and if not a well placed shot to the shoulder or sternum is effective as well. Your right that you don%26#039;t need to wind up your hook. The arm hardly moves at all and it is the hip, shoulder and legs that do all the work. Just like in Muay Thai how all the power in the round house kick comes from the violent turning over of the hip, same with the hook. Only it is the violent pivot of the whole lead side of the body that gives you power. A lot of boxers are taught not to throw the power hand hook because it is a very dangerous shot. It comes from too far away, it is telegraphed, and it is easily countered. Work your jab a lot. Set everything up with the jab. You want to keep your punches long and sharp. And watch you footwork. Boxing footwork is a lot different that Muay Thai. You need to always be up on the back toes, ready to move and punch. Everything revolves around the pendulum (the back and forth motion) or small steps. Practice moving with an experienced boxer if you can. Good luck.|||I like this combo 2,3,2 it is fast for me being I use my strong hand first. As far as your hook if you are right handed try taking a step with your lead foot follow a half step with your rear twisting with your lead foot and leg, twist your waist, and keep your shoulder and arm the same height with your palm facing you.

Try it out and good luck.

Is it stupid to make my friend another scrapbook?

My friends birthday is coming up at the end of February, and I don%26#039;t know what to give her. We don%26#039;t buy eachother stuff like a shirt or something..we make stuff like scrapbooks or things like that

So two years ago I made her a scrapook, and last year I made her a shadow box..I wanted to make her another scrapbook this year, but is that stupid since I already made her one?

If you have any other ideas tell me!|||buy a shirt from the craft store, write/paint things on it.

bake her a cake

ohhh get a bulletin board, and put tons of things that signify what you have done together. you could also use a picture frame.

make her a mix cd.

write her a song, sing it or play it or whatever

make a list of all the things you like about her, frame it or something|||You can never have too many scrapbooks, so I say go for it. However, I think I might look for a different approach or theme. Perhaps make a mini-album or some such thing instead of a regular album. There are so many cute choices. You could make your own small book or buy one ready made to decorate.

I%26#039;m giving a couple of links below showing small completed mini albums that may give you inspiration.|||It%26#039;s not by any means stupid. I think it is a very sweet gift idea. If my best friend gave me that for my birthday I would love it. I think it%26#039;s better to get a close friend something like that instead of you know the regular birthday gifts. Another gift idea you may want to consider is making her a friendship bracelet or a powerpoint thanking her for being such a good friend. But I%26#039;m sure whatever you get her she will like and appreciate|||i think that would be fine!

also some ideas are

-get a little box and write a note about your friendship and how much you care about her and will always be tehre for her then place something special to both of you in it,like a friendship necklace or anything

then personalize it and add whatever else

it makes for a great gift nd she will love it trust me i did it|||maybe make her a collage of pictures instead, and it%26#039;s similar to the scrapbook, but different enough to make it interesting. You could use fun stickers and tons of pictures of you two throughout the years, you can frame it and she can hang it on her wall! It%26#039;d be a fun reminder of your friendship :)|||It%26#039;s not stupid, but i%26#039;d be nice to make her something else for a change...like a mosaic/ college of the photos of the both of you, remembering good times!|||a scrapbook is a great idea. scrapbooks are an awesome and very thoughtful gift. i would just try and make it different from the first one u made. there are millions of ways to decorate them. get online and look scrape booking ideas.|||make her a scarf!!! get one of those nifty kniters and make her a hat or a scarf... especially if you live som where like i do!!! its -25 outside right now and thats not even wiht the wind chill|||go to a craft store and c what they have and get some ideas!!!!

What kind of frame can I use to frame a poster WITH a drumhead in it as well?

I got my boyfriend a drumhead signed by one of his favorite bands for Christmas. I got a poster to go with it, and I want to display them together in a frame. I know I can get a regular poster frame but I don%26#039;t know if the drumhead will fit in a frame that thin. I%26#039;ve looked at shadow boxes but a lot of them are really expensive when you need one the size of a poster (24%26quot; by 36%26quot;). Does anyone know how else I could display these two items or where I could find a cheaper frame that would do the job as well??|||have you thought about building a shadow box yourself there pretty simple to buiild................. http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/shows_cds/...|||MICHAEL%26#039;S arts %26amp; crafts custom frame sizes, saw them there.

When what and how do you amateur boxers practice that fight for competitions?

i just wanted to compare my training habits with yours to see. 5 days a week. First Shadow box 30 mins. Then spar for 3 rounds of 2 mins. Then hit the the bag for 15 mins. Then run 2-3 miles in 25 minutes. Do abs and then jumprope for 10 mins. Medium Intensity not hardest though. Go home.|||i believe your practice schedule should depend on how far you want to go in boxing. my schedule consisted of 3 mile run 6am, evening practice 3 miles, shadow box 3 rds, 2 rds heavy bag, 2rds dbl end bag, 2rds speed bag, 3 punch mitts, abs, jump rope 3 rds. spar tues and thurs 8-12 rds. but no road work on sparring days. in the amatuers its about volume of punches and endurance wins rounds.|||You need to spare more rounds. Get that stamia up. That is one of the most important things in boxing. Make sure you know your fighting style, get your footwork perfected and hit that headache bag. I see your running , thats also very good for boxing.

Say I were to shadow box?

Say I were to shadow box w/ 15 lb wrist weights slowly and well controlled so as not to throw out my arm.

I was thinking this could be great for building speed and strength in punches, increase cardio, AND develop muscles in the arm (and possibly some added shoulder strength).

But then I was thinking it could be joint injury...

Any thoughts?

If it%26#039;s safe... then what%26#039;s the longest I should considerably go for?

I already jump rope 20 minutes a day (Two ten minute sets) with two 5s on my wrists and 10s on the ankles.|||I%26#039;d say shadow box without the 15 lb wrist weights, and you won%26#039;t have to worry about joint injury.

If you want to increase your strenght, hit the weights, but don%26#039;t overdo it as not to affect your speed with too much muscle mass.

good luck!|||The primary purpose of shadowboxing is to develop technique. I suggest that if you want to build strength in punching, weight training is a good option. To develop speed while maintaining you technique, use 16 oz. sparring gloves instead of 15lb weights. 15lbs is a bit too much weight to have an effective shadowboxing session.

Like any form of exercise care must be taken when executing any technique. Be sure to extend your arm all the way, but not to over-extend, this is what leads to joint injury when practicing with weights. Also, it is a good idea to switch it up i.e. shadowbox with weights and without, so you have an idea of your progress.

A good shadowboxing session (in general) is split up like this:

3-5 mins boxing

15-30 sec rest

10-15 rounds

Note that much of this information is from MY personal experience and that every martial artist is different. Good luck with your training.|||I would suggest building up the weight level over time from the 5lbs-10lbs-15lbs., just to be safe.

However, it should be ok, as long as you don%26#039;t have any prexisting strains or other issues in this area.

Some ideas are...

1. let her go to the movies with her friends by herself

2. let her go shopping with her friends

3. let her go on a date or go out with someone

4. let her spend more time on the computer or any other electronic she likes.

She always receives money from relatives, so general gift certificates and cash aren%26#039;t something we ever give our kids.

Here are some things we considered:

*Portable CD/DVD/MP3 player

*Digital camera

*Several movie tickets

*%26quot;Grown-up%26quot; art supplies

*Board games

*Game for her Nintendo DS (Animal Crossing and Sims2 Pets are both ones she really enjoys playing now)

*Earrings (she had her ears pierced last year)

*Tween magazine subscription

*Animal statuettes (she collects these)

What you get her will really depend on her personality. Mine loves animals, but we have a cat and a dog and getting a new pet isn%26#039;t appropriate for us, but other kinds of animal-related gifts (nature books, animal related craft kits, etc) were on our list, as well.

Does she collect anything? You mentioned that she has an interest in butteflies, so maybe start her on a butterfly knick-knack collection? Or a magazine that focuses on butterflies?

Are there any kinds of things near your home that she enjoys doing regularly that you could give her a membership to? For example, maybe a zoo membership? It would have to be something you%26#039;d be willing to take her to regularly, and not something you would normally get anyway.

Best of luck!

I%26#039;m looking at selling Shadow Boxes that I have made to businesses that are willing to buy them. How much of a mark up in percentage should I ask?|||Mark-up on products is somewhat arbitrary. Can Batman Shadow Box in Gotham City?

How can i make wall shadow boxes?

Step1

Line the backboard of the shadow box with batting covered with fabric, felt or decorative paper. Attach items to the batting and fabric with either Velcro strips, spray adhesive or small pins (if appropriate for the texture of the item).

Step2

Create a dimensional display box by mounting the items on little blocks of wood or foam pieces. You should use a strong adhesive to attach the wood pieces permanently to the board. However, it%26#039;s okay to pin or hot-glue foam pieces to the backboard.

Step3

Place your keepsakes in the shadow box, starting in the middle and working your way outward. You can add embellishments to enhance your shadow box, such as pinbacks, ticket stubs, napkins, matchbook holders, vinyl records or small pennants.

Step4

Think outside the box to display your memorabilia. To shadow box theater memorabilia, attach pieces of velvet fabric to the wood frame to create a curtain. Then fill your mock stage with a playbill, program, newspaper review and other elements to symbolize your favorite musical or Broadway play.

AFJROTC shadow boxes?

Is it ok to make a shadow box if you are in AFJROTC (Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps)? I want to make one when I get out of high school. Thanks.|||Well its not against the rules if that is what you are asking. It seems a little odd to make something like for JROTC but if you are proud of what you did and want something to show for it then do it. Shadow boxes are just a way of displaying military achievements. There are no regulations or guidlines governing them as far as I know.

Can punching wth weights increase my punching power?

I have been doing an exercise which feels really great, but I do not know if it is effective.

I have been throwing punches and shadow boxing with 30lb dumbbells, and I do about 5 sets and 60 punches each rep.

Afterwards, my back, shoulders, and triceps feel incredible.

However, I want to know from a more experience or professional person who has boxed, if this is effective.

Please let me know. Thank you.|||resistence, thats how|||I%26#039;ve only ever done uppercuts with dumbells as anything else seems like it would destroy your elbow. Simulating a jab with 5 pounds in your hand wouldn%26#039;t actually work the muscles used in a jab, unless you were on your back instead of standing upright. But it would be murder on your elbow.|||Woody is dead right!!!|||Woody is correct. Punching power comes from proper technique, the basics of good footwork, proper placment, timming, etc.

30 lbs. seems a little extreme for shadowboxing, espically if your following %26#039;thru%26#039; with your punches. With this much weight, and throwing with velocity, your going to hyperextend, putting undo stress on your joints.

I use 2-1/2 lb. to 5lb. wrist and ankle weights, but only on a heavy bag. So that there is something to %26#039;hit%26#039;. Instead of throwing with speed into empty air (with weights.) and %26#039;popping%26#039; my elbow and knee joints. Can use this combo to help gain speed. So with the proper techniques and a increase in speed, this will help with your punching power.|||Ultimate Fighters train this way.|||no it doesn%26#039;t increase because you are working the shoulder and back muscles more than the ones in your arm that are used for power. try doing really slow puchups instead|||I would say yes cuzz then you will get use to it and when you use just glove then you can feel the difference...|||My understanding has always been that punching with smaller weights improves balance, not punching power.|||I can tell you right now from personal experience that punching with weights in your hands will not increase your power. Proper punching technique helps a lot with power. Punching with weights only increased my punching durability and maybe speed..... well actually the speed thing was probably more of a mental thing.

Also, I think punching with 30-pound weights is a little extreme. You could possibly do some damage to yourself.|||punching power is a gift eather you got it or you dont
