Why do some professional boxers not fully extend their arms when shadow boxing?

i have seen a few boxers shadowing recently such as roy jones, calzaghe and when they shadow they only extend their arms a few inches, why is this?|||Have you ever thrown an %26#039;air%26#039; blow and hyperextended your elbow?? That%26#039;s why. Shadow boxing is for loosening up your muscles so you don%26#039;t go into the ring cold. Or for some boxers it%26#039;s all for show.|||Shadow boxing is part of warming up. It is used to limber up your arms.

If someone throws a punch and fully extends the arm they can damage the arm.

When punching a bag or sparing you contact something at the end of the punch. If you not contact something to stop the motion of the arm you can easily injure the joints or muscles.|||Shadow boxing aids your timing and rhythm as well as warming you up.

The fully thrown punch usually hits an object, opponent, thus the force is taken through the shoulder down to the feet. If you throw a forceful punch into thin air this causes unnecessary strain on the arm joints and muscles. There is nothing wore than throwing a punch, with considerable force and not hitting your target.|||Warm up basically, losen up muscles :)
