What type of frame is used to frame an embroidered fabric, approximately 1/2 inch thick?

I have an embroidered blanket (?), which is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. It is a memorial to my father, and I am going to attach his medals to it as well. The problem is a picture frame will not have enough space, and a shadow box frame seems like it will be too much space.
